GPU battle continues

There have been some info leaking about the R420, though much of it have been contradicting, so it's hard to know what's true and not. But now a photo of the card has hit the net, and it seems credible. The cooling looks a little bit larger than what we're used to from ATi, but at least it seems to be single slot. It will be very interesting to see what this beast will manage once it's launched. Rumors say that it's going to be launched on Monday (April 26), but other dates such as May 3 and May 5 have also been mentioned. Personally I'm very excited and can hardly wait to see this thing in action. Rumors say it's going to kick the NV40's ass.

Are you not a bit biased when you're working for ATI now. Besides the lack of shader model 3 is a bit depressing, especially when it lacks Vertex Shader 3.0

Is it true the R420 doesn't support version 3.0 shaders? I thought the official specs weren't released yet...

AFAIK that's still a rumor... since the official specs haven't been released yet and whatnot.

Yeah its still a rumour but a very dense one. Also the slides from Richard Huddy (ATI)that accidently found their way to the net, give even more proof to these rumours.

Yes, of course I'm biased.
I don't know any specs or anything else though (haven't started working yet ...), but I'm very excited because of the rumors. Especially the performance sounds very promising.

Well I hope if they do not add features (The rumoured 3dc compression does not sound that fancy to me), they add at least some fixes to some stuff they had in R3xx like the screwed up MRT implementation, Querries, etc. And they should enlarge the number of instructions in the shaders. 64 arithmetics is really not that much, they should at least double them.

i really hope ati implements EXT_render_target.. i know, it's nothing about hw at all, but it would be a reason for me to get a geforce soon if ati "forgets about it".

.. let's see ..

Hmm I think ATI won't there Uber/SuperBuffer thing is much more than EXT_
