I've added a new gallery with pictures from my trip to Niagara Falls. In good old tradition, I lag about half a year behind with the pictures as these are from August 2007.

Yikes. I actually started writing one a long time ago because people asked for it, but I never finished it. We'll see if I'll be able to find some time for it. But basically it's all about snapping a lot of photos in all directions with the camera mounted on a panorama head so that the lens nodal point is locked in place, then loading them into an app like Realviz Stitcher and assembling the cubemap. Then some final touch-up in photoshop to remove the tripod from the image.

Hey,
thx for the short info.
Is it really necessary to use a panorama head???
No chance to use an arbitrary digicam?
Interesting which tool you are using.
Nonetheless, a professional tutorial with a lot of hands-on experience + tips would be great

ChrisGraphics,
you can use any digital camera (even though an SLR is recommended because of the manual settings to guarantee that all pictures are taken with the same settings (some high-end P&S cameras have fully manual mode too)). I'd recommend you mount the camera on a panorama head though. I use a Nodal Ninja 3, which is quite affordable and good enough. It is possible to do it with just a tripod that you can rotate too, but the images will shift since it's not rotating around the lens nodal point. I did my first cubemaps that way, but it's a lot messier and generally means you have to postprocess your stuff for hours to cover rendering errors. In like half the cases the quality will be too poor to use. So a panorama head is definitely worth the money.

Nadja,
n, fast jag letade inte heller. Hade nog blivit lite vl bltt.

Your photographs inspire me to pick up a camera and take up photography or something, hehe. Especially your last photograph that made the front page .

Anyhows this is the first comment I've ever made on your website, but I do visit every now and then to see what's new or whatever .
